10th – 12th Grade

High school students are considered full adult members of the congregation. Yet, we recognize that they are growing and learning. There are a variety of opportunities in the church, community, nation and world for them to explore and discover who God created them to be.

Disciples For Christ (10th grade Confirmation)

Tenth graders and their adult mentors, along with an adult leader, meet once a month (September – April) for learning, service, and discussion about what faith means in our daily lives. They will also prepare for their affirmation of baptism (Confirmation Sunday).

The first meeting will be Wednesday, September 17, 2023 at 5:30 p.m. with parent(s) and mentor. Dinner will be provided.

From October through April, Disciples in Christ will meet once a month on the third Sunday of the month from 5:30-7:30 p.m. with dinner, activity and discussion.

Worship

High school students are encouraged to actively participate in the worship life of the congregation, including music, reading scripture, ushering, preparing and serving communion, media team, and praying.

Youth Group

If you are interested in participating in high school youth group, contact the pastor for more information.

Summer Opportunities

There are a variety of summer opportunities for high school students from mission trips, Bible camp experiences and high adventure trips in order for them to explore their faith, build relationships, discover the world, and learn who God created them to be.

College Scholarships

Each year Zion Lutheran Church provides the following scholarships for graduating high school seniors. Each applicant is eligible for one of the four available scholarships. Applications will be considered in order of date received so early application is encouraged.  The scholarships will be awarded upon enrolling in the second semester of their post-secondary education.

The Marie Zuelke Scholarship
One -$500 scholarship, with an extra $100 if the applicant attends a Christian college or university.

The Grace M.E. Carpenter Memorial Scholarship Fund
Two – $500 scholarships given to two graduating seniors.

Bev Aschenbrenner Memorial Scholarship
One – $500 scholarship given to one graduating senior from Stratford High School.

Applications are available in early Spring.

Youth Council Representative

High School youth have the opportunity to be a Congregational Council representative. The youth gives voice to the ministry ideas of youth in the congregation and community. The youth representative will also participate on the Faith Formation Team. Time commitment is two meetings per month (as extra-curricular activities permit) and being the Host on Sunday mornings once every 8-10 weeks. Term is for one-year or up to three years. Interested youth should contact the pastor or a Council member.

Synod Youth Board

The Synod Youth Board is comprised of high school youth from all over our synod who have  a passion for the future of the church!  The board meets about 5 times in a year to plan Godstock and Christ Jam.  Each conference of the Northwest Synod of Wisconsin has an opportunity to nominate and elect representatives at the Godstock youth gathering in November. Interested youth, please contact Interim Pastor Andrea Fluegel.

ELCA Youth Gathering

High School students will head to New Orleans, July 16-20, 2024 for a once-in-a-lifetime experience of worship, concerts, activities and service projects with over 30,000 youth from across the country.
